At Samavaya Ashram, our Yoga Alliance Certified Ashtanga Teacher Training honours the lineage of Ashtanga Yoga, inspired by Rama Mohana Brahmachari, passed down through Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, and rooted in the traditional Mysore-style practice.
Our curriculum blends traditional wisdom with a structured modern approach, including daily practice, Mysore sessions, philosophy, pranayama, meditation, anatomy, and teaching methodology. Students develop strength, flexibility, discipline, and self-awareness.
Whether you aim to become a Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher or deepen your personal practice, this course offers an authentic foundation. Set in the peaceful environment of our residential school in India, it provides an immersive experience for holistic growth of body, mind, and spirit.

We recommend registering for our 200-Hour Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training at least 3-4 months before the course commencement. Early registration not only secures your seat but also gives you ample time to prepare for a meaningful and transformative learning experience.
At Samavaya Ashram, our Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher Training is an intensive residential program that goes beyond learning postures. It is a holistic immersion into the traditional yogic way of life, requiring physical readiness, mental resilience, and a sincere commitment to self-study and practice.
Once your registration is confirmed, you will receive a detailed preparation guide along with recommendations to help you begin your journey before arriving at the ashram. We encourage all participants to establish a consistent practice of at least one hour a day, 5–6 days a week, in the months leading up to the course.
This preparatory phase helps develop the strength, discipline, and consistency needed to fully embrace the training. Students who begin preparing early often arrive with greater confidence, adapt more easily to the intensive schedule, and gain a deeper understanding of the teachings.
At Samavaya, we believe your Yoga Teacher Training begins the day you commit to the path. Registering early is not simply about reserving a place—it is the first step in your transformation as a practitioner and future yoga teacher.

Course Curriculum
The programme is structured around the traditional teaching schedule — morning Mysore practice anchors each day, supported by systematic theory, pranayama, and contemplative study.
Our Yoga Alliance Certified Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training is rooted in the authentic Ashtanga Yoga Parampara (lineage), preserving the traditional teachings while helping students understand their practical application in modern life.
1. Vinyasa Krama
Derived from the Sanskrit words 'Vi' (in a special way) and 'Nyasa' (to place), Vinyasa Krama is the systematic coordination of breath and movement. In the Ashtanga tradition, every posture is entered, held, and exited through a specific sequence of movements synchronised with the breath. This method generates internal heat, supports detoxification, enhances circulation, and prepares the body, nervous system, and senses for deeper yogic practices.
2. Tristhana
Tristhana refers to the three essential pillars of Ashtanga Yoga practice: Asana (Posture) — developing strength, stability, flexibility, and proper alignment; Pranayama (Breath) — using conscious breathing to regulate prana and calm the nervous system; and Drishti & Mental Focus — cultivating concentration by directing the gaze and steadying the mind. Together, these three elements transform yoga into a moving meditation.
3. Yoga Chikitsa — The Primary Series
Yoga Chikitsa is a carefully structured sequence of approximately 75 postures designed to purify, strengthen, and restore the body from within. Practised through breath-synchronised movement, the series helps detoxify the body, improve spinal alignment, build strength, and increase flexibility. Throughout the course, students progressively learn the Primary Series with emphasis on correct alignment, breath, transitions, modifications, and the traditional methodology of teaching Ashtanga Yoga.
Master classical breathing techniques (Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Bhastrika), learn energy locks (Mula, Uddiyana, Jalandhara Bandha) to direct vital energy, and explore subtle mudras to quiet the mind and deepen meditation practice.
Explore single-pointed focus techniques that quiet mental chatter, bridge active concentration to spontaneous meditation (Dhyana), and cultivate deep internal awareness.
Study classic philosophical texts, explore the Eight Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga, and understand how ancient yogic principles apply to modern daily life and personal growth.
Practical introduction to traditional purification practices including Jala Neti, Kapalabhati, and Nauli to cleanse the physical channels and prepare the body for advanced pranayama.
Comprehensive study of skeletal alignment, muscular engagement, joint mechanics, and injury prevention tailored specifically to the repetitive movements of Ashtanga Yoga.
Hands-on adjustments clinic, sequencing analysis, voice cultivation, posture breakdown, and practical teaching experience with real-time feedback.
