About Cortijo Caseria del Mercado

Located in the heart of the Alpujarras, the Cortijo is not just a working farm. It has been converted into a retreat center with traditional Spanish accommodations, a natural mineral water pool from our mountains, and three spacious workshop spaces with stunning views.

The agriculture is completely organic and biodynamic. In addition to the abundant fruits and vegetables grown on the farm, there is also a peacock breeding sanctuary.

The Cortijo is located at an altitude of 1,250 meters, in the mountains bordering the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. Located between the small towns of Almegíjar and Cástaras, it’s 30 kilometers from Orgiva, a cosmopolitan town with more than 75 different cultures, 70 kilometers from the tropical coast and beach, and 100 kilometers from Granada airport.

A wide variety of flora and fauna surrounds the estate. The area boasts fantastic hiking trails with spectacular views of the mountains and white villages of the Alpujarras. One of the most important is the climb to Spain’s highest peak.

About Our Host and Lead Teacher

Chiara Vaiani

Growing up in Italy, Chiara was introduced to yoga from an early age, observing her mother in pranayama and asana practices both at home and in the shala. This early exposure planted the seeds of a lifelong journey. In 2016, her curiosity led her to the path of Ashtanga Yoga, where she began a dedicated practice under the guidance of a teacher who continues to mentor her today.
While Ashtanga remains the foundation of her personal practice, Chiara has expanded her experience through a 200-hour Vinyasa training in Mysore and a 50-hour Rocket Yoga certification. These immersions, together with her ongoing self-practice, have deepened her understanding of yoga beyond the physical postures.
Over the years, Chiara has shared her practice with students in the Netherlands and across Spain, which has been her home base for the past decade. Her teaching is rooted in presence, tradition, and inclusivity, to create a space where every practitioner feels supported and seen. Chiara holds a deep respect for the origins and teachings of yoga and is committed to honoring its tradition with gratitude, and an open heart. She shares what she practices: showing up with intention, listening deeply, and honoring the unique path of each individual.
