About the Founder and Lead Teacher of Samavaya

Acharya Kamal

Trained from the age of fourteen to twenty in the traditional Gurukulam education system, Acharya Kamal spent seven years at Vida Vijana Gurukulam in Bengaluru, gaining knowledge and developing discernment and spiritual discipline. He began his deep study of Sanskrit and the foundational texts of Indian spirituality, including but not limited to the Vedas, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Geeta, and Upanishads. Here, he also developed his sense of duty and responsibility to transmit the vast treasure of this Vedic knowledge to future generations.

After completing studies in Gurukul, Acharya earned his master’s in yoga and yoga therapy and completed his PhD focusing on the history of yoga from S-VYASA University in Bangalore, the oldest and largest accredited institution of Yogic higher education in India and globally.

For three years, 2021 – 2024, Acharya taught 200-hour Hatha, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa YTT and 300-hour Advanced YTT at a busy residential yoga teacher education center in Mysore. In this setting, he continued his life of service to his students, which carried forward into his founding of Samavaya.

His vision is the impetus behind the creation of Samavaya, which exists as a commitment to sharing wisdom with students seeking a deeper experience of yoga and traditional forms of knowledge.
